Troubleshooting Guide

This is a guide meant to assist hosts and producers in Scoot to troubleshoot some of the most commonly experienced user problems while on Scoot.

Joining from an Approved Browser or Device

It is really importnat that users are joining from an approved browser or device. While Scoot supports all major browsers, Safari and Firefox have stricter security protocols which may cause unexpected issues. These browsers should be treated as 'early access'. If you or another user are experiencing issues on Scoot while using these browsers, it is recommended that you try entering from a more stable browser such as Chrome or Edge. Below is a list of all of our approved browsers and devices:

Browsers

currently supported browsers:

  • Google Chrome
  • Google Chrome - Android
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Safari*
  • Firefox*

Devices

  • PC
  • Mac
  • Surface Pros*
  • Chromebooks*
  • Android Tablets*
  • Android Mobile
  • iOS iPad
  • iOS Mobile

Updating Browsers

Scoot, like any other browser-based platform will preform best on the most updated version of your browser. If you are experiencing issues and have not updated your browser in some time, you may be unable to join a Scootaverse. For more information on how you can check and update your browser, click here.

Setting Mic and Camera Permissions

Another common issue that users run into when first entering a Scootaverse is not allowing Scoot to access their mic or cameras. Without these permissions, Scoot is unable to get your video or mic and will not allow you to enter. Follow this link to read about how you can update your permissions on all major browsers.

Enabling Hardware Acceleration

If a user is reporting that their audio is fine, but their video is laggy, stuck, or goes in and out, they may be experiencing issues with hardware acceleration. Hardware acceleration allows devices to use specific hardware to more efficiently run a function. That's a fancy way of saying that enabling this feature can significantly improve your experience in Scoot since your computer won't be working as hard to give you all of those video streams. Most newer devices have this feature enabled in the browser automatically, but you can read here to see how to enable it yourself.

Entering on PC while other Applications are open

One of the most common issues that users run into when entering Scoot is actually specific to PC users. Most PCs do not allow multiple applications to use the mic or camera. That means that while Scoot is open, you cannot also have a window with Teams or Zoom. While your camera may not even be active in those windows, these platforms are able to hold onto the control of your camera and microphones and may limit your ability to enter Scoot. If you attempt to enter and notice that you had a Teams meeting open, it is recommended that you fully close out of Teams and then refresh the Scoot page to attempt re-entry.
