Enabling Closed Captions on Scoot

Scoot is dedicated to providing an accessible platform for all users, and we're thrilled to introduce the Closed Captions feature. Available in both Mingle Mode and Presentation Mode ton ensure that everyone can fully participate.

Enabling Closed Captions in Mingle Mode

Mingle Mode on Scoot allows you to navigate a virtual room, joining groups, and engaging in spontaneous interactions. With the introduction of Closed Captions, you can now see real-time transcriptions of the dialogues happening around you. This ensures that no matter the noise level or language barrier, you can be an active participant in every conversation.

To enable Closed Captioning:

  1. Navigate to Settings: In the virtual room, locate and click on the settings icon.
  2. Select ‘Accessibility’: Within the settings menu, find the ‘Accessibility’ option.
  3. Enable Closed Captions: Toggle the Closed Captions feature to ‘On’. You will now see real-time transcriptions of conversations happening within your vicinity.

The button to turn captions on and off is on the right side of the toolbar. In mingle mode, the captions appear the bottom of the screen right above the toolbar. They have a background to make them visible against any other background.

Enabling Closed Captions in Presentation Mode

In Presentation Mode, whether it’s during webinars, training sessions, or all-hands meetings, Closed Captions play a pivotal role. They provide live transcription of not just the main presenter but also any active speakers, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the entire session.

  1. Access Presentation Settings: When in Presentation Mode, look for the settings icon, typically located at the bottom or side of your screen.
  2. Find ‘Closed Captions’: In the settings menu, locate the option for Closed Captions.
  3. Activate the Feature: Switch the Closed Captions to ‘On’. The transcriptions of the spoken content will now appear on your screen, allowing you to follow along seamlessly.

In presentation mode, the captions appear in the space between the gallery and the presenters/screen share. The button to turn the captions on and off is on the right side of the bottom toolbar.
